Mexican-American visual artist born in Monterrey, Mexico from a family of architects, interior designers and graphic artists. Maria Cervantes has been involved in the Arts for most of her life. She first obtained a degree in Graphic Design and a Master in Business Administration from the Universidad de Monterrey, in San Pedro Garza Garcia, Nuevo León, Mexico. Cervantes studied art at University of Houston and then received a Fulbright Scholarship for a Master of Arts (MA) in Art History at the University of Oklahoma (OU) in Norman, Oklahoma and completed a Master in Fine Arts (MFA) also at OU.
Maria was an Adjunct Professor in the Art Department at the Universidad de Monterrey she was part of the Art Department from 1996 to 2010. She also taught Visual Arts and Art History courses at the Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM) in Monterrey, Mexico. In addition to that, at the University of Oklahoma, she taught drawing, curated the Slide and Media Center and worked as an intern at the Fred Jones Museum of Art while studying her two Masters at OU. After living for nearly a decade in Delaware where she 
worked as an English as a Second Language Tutor, she moved to the Midwest where she enjoys painting, producing artworks and teaching art to adults.
